This is the story of Anthony, a baby boy whose arrival brought immense joy and love into his mama Julia's life. From his first days in the NICU to finally coming home to meet his furry siblings, Rex and Mildred Louise, Anthony’s journey is one of resilience and deep connection.
Mama Julia shares the story:
Anthony was born on August 11, 2024. He came home from the hospital to join Rex and Mildred Louise, (his new dog and cat best friends) and his mama, Julia. (Me.)
I decided to adopt a baby instead of give birth because I don’t think you need to give birth to be the best parent you can be. I started thinking about kids whose birth parents were looking for an adoptive home and I believe that this is the path that was meant for me. I knew Anthony was out there somewhere and that we would find our way to one another.
Anthony is doing great! He had some health challenges shortly after he was born so the first time I saw him he had oxygen and an IV tube - my first thought was how healthy and big he looked, even with all that stuff. We spent quite awhile in the NICU before we finally got to go home, but I can't complain a bit, he is such a happy and easy baby.
Anthony Rayder was somewhat of a surprise so I didn't have any boy names picked out. I chose Anthony because it was my Pop's middle name and means Priceless One. Rayder means Protecting Hands. After the small army of people who laid their hands on him to fight for his life and help him find his way to me, it felt very appropriate.
I love taking care of my baby - I cried when it was time to go back to work. I don't want to do anything except for cuddle him and read or sing to him or make him laugh. I am very blessed to have my mom here taking care of him while I work from home until he is six months and will start daycare.
My favorite moments are the smallest things - a deep sigh, or when he snuggles up to me in his sleep, or if he wakes himself up with a big toot. I love his sly smile and side eye. The quiet moments when we are alone and I know I will be there to love and protect him for the rest of my life.
The three things that have made my life so much easier as a single mom:
1. BabyBrezza bottle maker and sanitizer. Yes it is bougie - yes it is worth it
2. Infant bath tub with adjustable sling
3. Baby swing that rocks
